In today’s show I get the chance to chat to my good friend Gary Nicol.
Gary spent over 20 years coaching at the very highest level of the game of golf on the European Tour
He worked with many tournament winners and Ryder Cup players
In our time together we discuss what he found to work best by actually being at the ‘coal face’ of coaching
To be out there on the European Tour for so long tells you an awful lot about how effective a coach is.
The Tour is a tough taskmaster in the sense that if you don’t get results with players you get fired!
Rapidly
Gary found that simplicity was the key to peak performance but underpinning this was a vast knowledge of the intricacies of the game and more importantly cause and effect.
As I once heard
‘It takes a very bright man to keep it simple’
Gary does that better than most
In our time together we also discuss how Gary came to find the simple principles of INTENTION and ATTENTION so very important for his coaching and how he now realises that a lot of his successful coaching was down to his ability to keep a player’s attention in a USEFUL place
Whatever you aim to get from this podcast to boost your brain Gary has some tremendous insights gained from practical real word application
We talk about
The differing needs of players
Life out on Tour
When coaching can go wrong and WHY it goes wrong
Coaching players both on and off the course
More effective practice
How to bring players out of a slump
What can ruin a golf career
What the ‘great’ players do and more importantly DON’T do
How to use technology to help rather than hinder your game
A new way to look at putting
How to reset your attention for your future progress
Enjoy your time with Gary Nicol who coaches from the beautiful Archerfield links which is an absolute MUST place to visit
It is one of my favourite places on earth and is just a wonderful venue to escape the world
