Today on the Brain Booster we have PGA Tour Legend Hal Sutton.
Former Ryder Cup Captain and winner of the USPGA Championship in 1983
Hal shared some wonderful and honest insights into his game, his development and his view on the modern game.
Going back to the PGA Championship in 1983
On the back nine on Sunday Hal had his hero Jack Nicklaus chasing him down. He had a number of consecutive bogeys and by his own admission the thought of being labelled a ‘choker’ came into his mind.
Yet when it REALLY mattered Hal was able to summon an inner strength to get the job done.
He explains HOW
Hal talks about the key influences in his career
The coaching of Jimmy Ballard
The mentorship of the great Byron Nelson
The conversations they had and how one single insight gave Hal the ability to hit the final tee shot to win his major at Riviera
The experience of being a Ryder Cup Captain
The reaction of certain players
The pairing of Tiger and Phil
How they responded
The fall out from being on the losing team
The questions and the opinions from other people
How the defeat affected Hal for a LONG time afterwards and how he had to rekindle his love of the game
Hal was also very candid about his relationship with his father
What they would change if they had their time again
The mistakes that can be made and more importantly what to do about them
Such wise words of advice that is so valuable for any parent of a promising junior player
A really informative session from a top player
